Melt grew out of another rock band that had been around the local Boston music scene.  Bassist Paul Pipitone had been on that circuit for several years and was looking to do something new that combined elements that were dynamic and jarring yet still accessible and melodic.  He wanted to combine elements of punk, art rock and goth, and was hoping to find people not afraid to branch out from any static one-dimensional rock sounds.

From the moment Rachel Drucker sang her first note to the band, it was clear she was the voice and front person they had been looking for. With her diverse theatre and musical background, not to mention stellar vocals and stage presence, she brought the band to a new level of excellence.  She brought up the energy level a thousand fold due to her live performances, and interest in exotic instruments and world and underground music.

However, everyone defines musical direction and priorities differently so changes in lineup followed.  Things really started coming together with the addition of Ben Thompson who took the drum spot in early 2008.  Ben met the band via the worship team at Paul’s church.  Ben added immediate fire, excitement and exceptional drumming which brought the band to a place where they try rhythms and feels from all over the globe and still sound authetic and powerful.

Dan Inzana recently joined in the fall of 2008 and takes over on guitar for their departing guitarist who lives too far away.  The band is thrilled with the addition as Dan’s style takes them in a more alternative direction that they have been wanting to move in for some time.

In the short time this lineup has been complete, people have been taking notice, with calls from local promoters and radio stations coming in, as well as a presence on the local music charts and a first place finish in the Emergenza and Bodog Battle of the bands first round.
